عناصر اصلى شهرهاى اسلامى - ایرانى

عناصر و اجزایى که در شهرهاى کهن ایران وجود داشته‏اند داراى نوعى ارتباط متقابل فضایى یکپارچه و به هم پیوسته بوده‏اند.

در شهرهاى اسلامى فضاهایى مانند مسجد جامع، بازار، مرکز حکومت، فضاهاى مسکونى و... ضمن آن که هر کدام جا، مرتبه و شخصیت‏خاص خود را در سلسله‏مراتب فضاهاى شهرى حفظ کرده و به ایفاى نقش خود مى‏پردازند، با هم مجموعه واحدى را پدید مى‏آورند که شهر را از نظر فضا واحدى منسجم و به هم پیوسته نشان مى‏دهد. عناصر اصلى مجموعه شهرى در شهرهاى اسلامى عبارتند از:

ارگ و بارو - ارگ مجموعه‏اى از ساختمانها و تشکیلات و سازمان حکومتى شهر را در خود جاى مى‏داده و مقر حاکم بوده است.

ارگ در ارتباط فضایى با بازار و مسجد جامع قرار داشته است.

این خصوصیات در آثار به جاى مانده بسیارى از قسمتهاى قدیمى شهرها قابل مشاهده اس

در «سمرقند» و «بخارا» ارگ شهر، خود بخشى از قلعه بوده و در مجاور مراکز اقتصادى و مذهبى قرار داشته است. «اساسا پس از ظهور اسلام بقایاى نظام شهرى کهندژى و شارستانى بتدریج از میان برداشته مى‏شود و شهر با مفهوم اسلامى آن که متعلق به تمام اقشار و طبقات اجتماعى است‏شکل مى‏گیرد. ارکان عمده شهر شامل دارالخلافه، دارالحکومه یا دارالاماره به جاى کهندژ ظاهر شده و سپس با ایجاد قصر امرا و پادشاهان مجموعه‏اى به نام ارگ را پایه‏ریزى مى‏کنند که در فاصله‏اى با مسجدجامع و بازار سه رکن اساسى شهر را به وجود مى‏آورند و در محدوده مرکزى شهر قرار مى‏گیرند.

در این میان ارگ به عنوان عنصر سیاسى از سایر عناصر جدا شده و با ایجاد حصار و بارو در اطراف آن به صورت کانون اصلى شهر تجلى مى‏کند. بخش دوم شارستان از نظر شکل‏یابى با دوره‏هاى قبل از اسلام تفاوتى ندارد ولى از نظر محتوا کاملا متفاوت است. عناصر فرهنگى - مذهبى، بازار و محلات در این بخش قرار دارند.

اصناف، پیشه‏وران و اکثر طبقات و قشرهاى مختلف مردم در این بخش زندگى مى‏کنند.
