برای اسکیس این شماره، سراغ سوژه داغ مجسمه‌های شهری رفته‌ایم. تندیس‌ها، مجسمه‌ها و احجامی که می‌توانند در راه رسیدن به منظر مطلوب شهری، نقش تعیین‌کننده‌ای داشته باشند. درباره مجسمه‌های موجود ومجسمه‌هایی که می‌توانند در سطح شهر نصب شوند. درباره نقاطی از شهر که بیشتر برای این کار قابلیت دارند و درباره انواع و اقسام سبک‌هایی که مجسمه‌سازان می‌توانند در تهران امروز تجربه کنند.

تکنیک تصویر کردن ابتدایی طرحی که به ذهن یک معمار می‌رسد و حجمی که برای اولین بار روی کاغذ ترسیم می‌شود. یادداشت‌های کارشناسان این صفحات هم به‌مثابه ایده‌های اولیه‌ای است که درباره سوژه پیشنهادی ما به ذهن آنها می‌رسد و پیشنهادهایی که می‌تواند در راه رسیدن به هدف مطلوب نقطه آغازی تلقی شوند.اما چرا این شماره به سراغ موضوع مجسمه‌های شهری رفته‌ایم؟ وقتی اواخر پاییز سال گذشته دومین دوسالانه مجسمه‌های شهری در نگارخانه برگ تهران به همت سازمان زیباسازی برگزار شد، جامعه جوان مجسمه‌ساز حضوری بسیار فعال داشت. نوع آثار ارائه شده در این دوسالانه نشان می‌داد که مجسمه‌سازان جوان، با ایده‌هایی کاملا نو به میدان آمده‌اند. طرح‌‌های پیشرو و حتی بعضا ایده‌آلیستی نشان از آن داشت که انگیزه‌ای قوی در جامعه هنری کشور برای تجربه‌های نو به وجود آمده و شهرداری تهران می‌خواهد تا آنجا که واقعیت‌ها اجازه می‌دهد لااقل به طرح این تجربه‌ها کمک کند. مجسمه‌های شهری بخشی اصلی و مهم از مجموعه هنر عمومی است که اغلب برای مکانی خاص طراحی و اجرا می‌شوند و در کنار آن، توجه به دیگر عوامل محیطی، اجتماعی و فرهنگی محل نصب اثر در آن دخیل است. میزان اثرگذاری و تحمیل آن به محیط از لحاظ اندازه، سادگی، پیچیدگی و جاذبه بصری باید با اهمیت کاربردی آن تطابق داشته باشد و به عنصری انسانی و مطلوب در محیط تبدیل شود. نیازهای بصری شهرها که در قالب آثار هنری برآورده می‌شوند در مکان‌ها و مناطق مختلف هر شهر دارای ویژگی‌هایی محلی است. این ویژگی‌ها تابع خصوصیات کاربردی محل و منطقه از جمله خدماتی، تولیدی، تجاری، مسکونی، آموزشی، تفریحی و...، خصوصیات جغرافیایی مثل پستی، بلندی یا نوع گیاه، مشخصات معماری منطقه، بازدیدکنندگان و فرهنگ اجتماعی و بصری آنها یا حتی شکل دیدن آثار از قبیل سواره، پیاده و دید در سرعت یا از فاصله هستند. با این حساب مجسمه‌سازی محیطی تابع شرایط کاربردی، مختصات بصری و سبک معماری، مخاطب و ترافیک است و به همین وسیله هماهنگی خود را با محیط به دست آورده و عملکرد معینی می‌یابد. از این رو خواستیم تا با رویکرد پیشنهاد برای آینده مجسمه‌های تهران، سراغ مجسمه‌سازان برویم و از افرادی که سابقه کار در تهران را دارند بپرسیم که «در راه تصویر کردن ایده‌آل تهرانی در این موضوع، چه چشم‌اندازی را می‌بینند و پیشنهادشان چیست؟ موانع موجود کدام است و چگونه می‌توان همراه با جامعه در این راه حرکت کرد؟»
